I was assigned to create a composition for a quote using vectorized hand lettering and existing typefaces. I chose an excerpt from the movie Interstellar, “Love is the one thing that transcends time and space.” More than half of the phrase was hand lettering (including love, one thing, time and space). Different font styles were used to write different words. I wrote love in script style since it’s a romantic word. “One thing” is in a simple sans-serif font; it won’t create conflict or take over other words. I wrote “time” in Blackletter because it can remind people of old times, and I used a combination of angular and curve strokes to write “space” to create a futuristic feeling. I also added some illustrations to increase visual interest.
